Play therapy can be used to treat many different types of people who may be suffering from a range of issues. Some typical uses of play therapy include helping children and young people with issues such as attachment, trauma, and behavioral difficulties and express themselves in a safe, comfortable environment. Because it can be non-verbal, many people find play therapy to be of particular use to those who may have difficulty communicating with words.
There are two main types of play therapy: receptive and active. Active play therapy involves the persons involved in treatment playing with others – this can occur in a group setting or one-on-one with the therapist. Because the instruments typically involved in active play therapy are often percussive in nature, we offer play therapy sessions to children and young people.
